San Francisco Sunset Reservoir

Installed atop San Francisco's largest water reservoir, Recurrent Energy's 5 MW Sunset Reservoir solar array more than tripled the City's supply of renewable energy. Consisting of nearly 24,000 solar panels, the project is one of the largest municipal solar arrays in the nation.

Online since 2010, the solar plant is operated under a Power Purchase Agreement between the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and Recurrent Energy.

The new solar power systems at the Sunset Reservoir will more than triple the energy we generate from the sun atop City facilities.

The clean solar electricity from the system is fed into the local distribution grid and used by the General Hospital, San Francisco International Airport, Muni light rail, and public schools throughout the city.
