Sunningdale 1

Sunningdale 1

Located near the city of London in the township of Thames Centre, Sunningdale was the final project to be completed in the 20 project portfolio, totaling 220 MWp/159 MWac, developed by Recurrent Energy in Southern Ontario.

The Sunningdale project reached commercial operation in mid 2014, and delivers electricity to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) through a 20-year feed in tariff agreement.

In March 2014, Fengate Capital Management Limited, one of Canada’s leading alternative asset management firms, announced the financial close of an investment in Sunningdale. The acquisition was completed following commercial operation of the project.

Benefits

The Sunningdale project is expected to generate enough clean solar power to support the annual needs of 1,200 Ontario homes. Sunningdale is sited on previously disturbed land near a former quarry, making the land ideal for solar development. The project created more than 100 jobs during the construction phase.

Including the Sunningdale project, Recurrent Energy has developed and constructed a total of 20 solar power plants across southern Ontario. The first projects in this 220 MWp/159 MWac portfolio began to come online in early 2013, and all 20 reached commercial operation by mid 2014. Recurrent Energy’s 20 projects are helping Ontario meet its ambitious goal to double the amount of energy generated from renewable sources by 2015.

Across the 20 projects, more than 2,700 jobs were created, contributing to the Province’s goal of creating 50,000 jobs in the green energy industry. In addition, roughly 60 percent of the materials for the projects were made or sourced in Ontario, providing an important boost to the local economy. The 20 projects generate enough clean solar energy to power roughly 26,500 average Ontario homes a year.
