Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are constructed of silicon, tempered glass, electrical wiring, and polymers and are mounted upon a steel frame called racking. Silicon, a scientific element most commonly found in sand, has conductive properties that allow it to absorb and convert sunlight into electricity. Solar projects represent significant local investments and drive meaningful increases in the local taxable property base. Solar projects also provide guaranteed annual property tax payments to local taxing jurisdictions, which allow county and local officials to make long-term financial plans and increase spending on public services and other critically important infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Large-scale solar projects pay millions of dollars per year directly to landowners through lease and easement agreements, resulting in a diversified revenue stream that protects against fluctuating commodity prices and preserves family properties for future generations. Solar power is a reliable source of energy, with solar projects now operating in all 50 states across the U.S.<\/a> A solar project will produce power most days of the year, even under cloudy conditions, and in some cases, clouds can result in better panel performance. Further, a recent industry trend is the use of bifacial solar panels, which have solar cells that capture sunlight from the front of the panel as well as sunlight that is reflected off the ground. These panels have been shown to yield 14% more energy than standard solar panels in a tilted, ground-mounted solar installation, and during peak winter months, bifacial modules have been shown to perform as much as 40% better than single-sided panels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No electricity source runs 100% of the time, including coal, gas, and nuclear plants. While solar is variable as a power source, its variability can be predictably forecast and used to complement other generation sources. Yes. Solar power is now one of the cheapest sources of new electricity in most of the world<\/a> due to declining equipment costs, improved technologies, and public policies which support the generation and use of renewable energy.<\/p>\n

In the last decade, the cost to install solar has dropped significantly<\/a>. According to Lazard\u2019s Levelized Cost of Energy Analysis \u2013 Version 18.0 (2025), even without tax credits, new solar resources have a levelized cost of energy in the range of 3.8\u00a2\/kWh \u2013 7.8\u00a2\/kWh for large-scale solar. This range falls below the levelized cost of energy for new coal or gas combined cycle power production<\/a>. These results have been bolstered by the International Energy Agency\u2019s World Energy Outlook 2024<\/a>, which found that \u201cSolar PV and wind are now the cheapest sources of electricity in most markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Solar panel materials are enclosed with glass and an aluminum frame and do not mix with water or vaporize into the air, so there is no risk of chemicals, including greenhouse gases, being released into the environment during normal use. Crystalline silicon PV panels, which represent approximately 90% of the solar panels in use today, do not pose a material risk of toxicity to public health and safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All solar facilities are designed to strict electrical safety standards to ensure safe operation. Solar panel racking and anchoring systems are built to withstand high-force winds. Flexible racking systems operate like a chain link fence under duress, bending with the wind rather than staying rigid and breaking. With respect to hail and wind, solar panels are typically tested and certified to withstand hail of up to one inch falling at 50 mph and winds of up to 150 mph<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition, we will be exploring adding \u201cstow\u201d protection to the panels we select. Stow protection allows the panels to move to either a horizontal position in the event of high winds to reduce exposure, or to a vertical position in the event of a hailstorm to minimize potential damage.<\/p>\n

The panels are designed for decades of corrosion-free operation, as they are encapsulated between two layers of transparent plastic to prevent exposure to the ambient air and moisture. These encapsulation layers are further protected with a layer of tempered glass on the front and a polymer sheet on the back. Due to the design and function of solar panels, the likelihood of sustained ambient temperature increase is very low. A heat island-related study<\/a> was performed by academic staff from the University of Maryland at experimental sites within the boundaries of the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park Solar Zone, a semi-arid desert site. The study found that a solar project in a semiarid setting without much vegetation may temporarily heat up ambient air by a few degrees, although the heat dissipates within a few feet above and 100 feet away from the project facilities. Our projects are designed to allow placement of access roads between solar fields, the planting of native vegetation in the project area, and the installation of vegetative buffers, all of which will negate any slight increase in ambient temperature.<\/p>\n

In a follow up interview, the study\u2019s lead author stated that there could be significant mitigation potential in planting native grasses in and around the solar project area, even potentially creating a cooler environment. PV panels are designed to last more than 25 years, and many manufacturers offer performance guarantees backed by warranties<\/a>. Like many other durable products and construction materials, solar equipment can last for decades with proper maintenance<\/a>, of which they require very little due to the presence of very few, if any, moving parts. Proper operations and maintenance can increase efficiency, extend a project\u2019s lifetime, and ensure safety. Our lease agreement states that the company is responsible for the decommissioning and removal of project infrastructure at the end of each project\u2019s life. Standard decommissioning practices include dismantling and repurposing, salvaging\/recycling, or disposing of the solar energy improvements, and restoration.<\/p>\n

Additionally, state, county, and local permitting authorities routinely require a decommissioning and restoration plan be put in place, which outline the various ways in which the project owner will safely and responsibly remove installed equipment and restore the property within the project area. In addition, financial securities are often required to ensure host communities and landowners will bear no responsibility for decommissioning or restoration.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Solar PV panels typically consist of glass, polymer, aluminum, copper, and semiconductor materials<\/a>, which can be safely disposed of in landfills at the end of the project life. In addition, recycling technologies have emerged in the last several years that have enabled these materials to be recovered and recycled at the end of their useful life<\/a>. PV solar panel recycling technologies have been put in place over the last decade that have been shown to recover over 95% of semiconductor materials and over 90% of the glass in the panel<\/a>. In other cases, solar PV components can be reused or refurbished to have a \u201csecond life\u201d of generating electricity<\/a>. The industry continues to work with recycling partners and to research and explore additional cost-effective recycling technologies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
