Recurrent Energy Energizes 200 MWh Battery Storage Facility in South Texas

Merchant battery storage facility supports ERCOT’s growing dispatchable energy needs

In June, we added Fort Duncan Storage – a 200 MWh standalone battery storage facility – to our operating portfolio. Recurrent Energy is proud to be a global leader in energy storage, now operating 6 GWh of battery energy storage projects worldwide.

Fort Duncan Storage is located in Maverick County, Texas and achieved commercial operation in June, just ahead of peak summer electricity demand. We secured $183 million in project financing, and Burns & McDonnell served as the engineering, procurement, and construction provider. Owned and operated by Recurrent Energy, the project is expected to contribute millions of dollars in tax revenue to support local community services.

Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, said: “The completion of Fort Duncan Storage highlights our long-term commitment to Texas, one of the most important and dynamic energy markets in the world. Battery storage plays a critical role in strengthening grid reliability and providing flexible power when it is needed most, while also creating significant economic benefits for local communities.”

By storing and dispatching electricity to the ERCOT grid in response to market demand, Fort Duncan supports Texas’s grid reliability. During a two-hour cycle, the facility can deliver enough power to serve up to 66,100 households
