Sunset Reservoir

Sunset Reservoir

Installed atop San Francisco’s largest water reservoir, the Recurrent Energy developed Sunset Reservoir project reached commercial operation in 2010. Consisting of nearly 24,000 solar panels, the project was one of the largest municipal solar arrays of its kind in the nation.

The electricity generated from the project is delivered to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). In August 2013, Duke Energy Renewables acquired the Sunset Reservoir project.

Benefits

The Sunset Reservoir project more than tripled San Francisco’s supply of renewable energy. The renewable, greenhouse gas-free energy from Sunset Reservoir helps power public buses, the San Francisco International Airport, health clinics, and other vital city services.

“The new solar power systems at the Sunset Reservoir will more than triple the energy we generate from the sun atop City facilities.”

– Gavin Newsom, Former Mayor of San Francisco
